Dopo anni di sfruttamento indiscriminato, il periodo dell'Antropocene ci restituisce una natura le cui reazioni rendono la Terra sempre meno abitabile: invertire la rotta è diventata oggi un'urgenza prioritaria. Il paradigma dei servizi ecosistemici muove un passo nella giusta direzione nel considerare la molteplicità dei benefici offerti al genere umano dall'ambiente, ma si presta a derive quantitative che rischiano di estendere la mercificazione anche al mondo della natura. Questo volume indaga da più orizzonti disciplinari la consistenza e l'utilità per le scienze del territorio del paradigma dei servizi ecosistemici, avanzando la proposta di ricondurlo all'interno dell'approccio bioregionale con l'introduzione del concetto di servizi eco-territoriali.

After years of indiscriminate exploitation, the Anthropocene period is giving us back a nature whose reactions make the Earth less and less habitable: reversing the route has now become a urgent priority. The paradigm of ecosystem services is moving a step in the right direction in considering the multiplicity of benefits offered to mankind by the environment, but lends itself to quantitative drifts that risk extending commodification to the world of nature. This book investigates the consistency and usefulness for the sciences of the territory of the paradigm of ecosystem services from multiple disciplinary horizons, advancing the proposal to bring it back within a bioregional approach, with the introduction of the concept of eco-territorial services.

The short introduction reconstructs the external history of the texts collected in this volume, which are a reworking of the authors' contributions to the seminar "From territorial heritage to eco-territorial services: towards an operational definition". It also draws a quick sketch of the relationships that urge us to rethink the ecosystem services as eco-territorial services, between territorialist approach, bioregional planning, territorial heritage, and answers to be offered urgently to the problems - climatic, environmental, economic and social - posed by a society in transition.
